About NetTank Company

NetTank Company was established in June, 2001 with the vision of becoming a personal think tank for people who aspire to create alternative society. The Company is committed to independent research in the area of innovative local management and issues regarding globalism. It also performs <Short Research> as commercial activities, which can be completed in a short period.

The NetTank Company attempts to directly connect people, communities and small/medium-size enterprises in the world without relying on the mass media, large multinational corporations or official governments.

• Independent Researchs
  
  The NetTank Company is a network of people who are willing to serve as researchers in a community. Independent research extends to various fields, such as community business, woman entrepreneurs, new forms of media and coexistence of multinational /racial people.
  
  
• Collecting Information
  
  Today people are having access to a great deal of information using the Internet, most of which was once restricted to only government and academic circles. It is essential for people to learn to collect/use information more effectively. Since there is so much information available, searching for information can be time consuming. It also requires certain skills,especially language skills in order to gain information from overseas. Valuable overseas information (e.g how to run communities)is not always easy to obtain. The NetTank Company aims to help people overcome these obstacles so that people can make their own decisions and act accordingly.
  
  
• New Media
  
  The NetTank Company aims to be a new form of media. The mass media today presents selected information which conveys particular views to its audiences. As long as we rely on the existing mass media as the only source of information, choice of view points is restricted. The information given by the mass media presents a specific world view. In fact, people are constantly exposed to the 'constructed' world view when they receive information.
  
  Communications through the Internet made it possible for people to learn about different views/values. Therefore the NetTank Company aims to become a new form of media corresponding with such changes.
  
  
• Educational Facility
  
  The NetTank Company promotes the concept of a "classroom on your desk" as an alternative way of acquiring knowledge without relying on existing educational institutions. It attempts to create a 'classroom' throught the Internet for those who may have limited educational oppotunities otherwise.
  

Press Alternative Group

The NetTank Company is affiliated with the Press Alternative Group. The group consists of 5 companies whose concerns are non-profit and are committed to social issues. The activities of the companies include:

• Fair Trade- "The Third World Shop"
• Micro credit - "Citizen's Bank" and "World Women's Banking"
